Villanova and discovered his illness in 2011 when he was assistant coach Josep Guardiola of Barcelona in training before his successor in 2012, led Barcelona to the Spanish league title , despite his absence from the bench coach for the team for several months because of his presence in New York for treatment.
He resigned as coach of Villanova Barcelona in 2013 after his health deteriorated and became a full-time need for treatment and was replaced by Argentine coach Gerardo Martino .
