The brothers were in direct opposition last month for the first time when striker Will's Queens Park Rangers faced defender Michael's Blackburn Rovers and they are both reaping the benefits of experiencing another stint in the second tier.
Will has previously been at Wigan Athletic while Michael shone at Leicester City and also spent some time with their East Midlands rivals Derby County.
After Rovers won the clash with QPR 2-0, Will was philosophical about the outcome when the MUTV cameras caught up with him afterwards. Rangers have since clinched a place in the play-offs.
"We've been at United since we were both 10 but have never actually come up against each other," Will said. "He usually plays centre-half so it would have been even stranger had he not played right-back. He played well and it was good to see him contributing to their team.
"It was a tight game. We created chances but didn't manage to put them away and it's fine margins. I hit the post but that's football. Close is not close enough.
"It's been tough [at QPR] with there being so many players as I've been in and out of the team, making it difficult to get consistency but I just wanted to come here and get minutes on the pitch. I am working hard at getting where I want to be and getting back to full fitness.
"It's a change of scenery and I'm living away from home for the first time so I've adapted and enjoyed it. It is all part of the learning process. It's not just on the pitch, I'm maturing off it as well. You have to be independent and look after yourself by being professional and taking care of your body, resting up and preparing for games."
Michael is also learning his trade as he hopes to end the campaign on a high with Blackburn, despite missing their Bank Holiday Monday fixture due to injury.
Reflecting on the game against his brother, he said: "I thought Will played quite well [on the day]. He should have scored maybe but, in general, he did alright. It was weird as the whole family was there so it was a good occasion."
As for his general thoughts on playing for a loan club, Michael added: "It's a hugely different challenge to Reserves football. It can be a bit more direct at times but, in many respects, it's more realistic as well in terms of what it means."
