Giggs has temporarily taken over first-team duties at Old Trafford following the departure of David Moyes and made a perfect start by masterminding last weekend’s morale-boosting 4-0 victory over Norwich City in the Barclays Premier League.
Brown, an ex-Red who played with Giggs between 1997 and 2011, has been impressed by the 40-year-old’s performance so far and is braced for a difficult match in front of a partisan crowd at the Theatre of Dreams.
“I watched his first game and United played really well. Everyone was up for it and, in that context, he has done fantastically,” Wes told SAFC.com. “Against us, we will obviously go there and try to get three points but we know it is going to be very difficult.
“I have always thought that Ryan would eventually manage a team and, although it is under bad circumstances in the way that he has gone in, I am sure he is thriving on it and looking forward to the next few games ahead.
"Everything at the moment is going to be in their favour. They have got a new lease of life, they will definitely be up for the game and the crowd will as well.
"They are looking to next season now and we have got to drain that out of them by doing what we have done it the last couple of weeks.”
Sunderland beat United at Old Trafford in January’s Capital One Cup semi-final penalty shoot-out victory. While that triumph boosted their self-belief, Brown says his colleagues will not be complacent on Saturday.
“You have to take that out of the equation," Wes insists. "It is completely different. That was a cup game and you could say that we caught them at a good time. We are not going there thinking we have beat them already and we can get another three points.
“It is completely the opposite if anything. It is going to be much more difficult, but if we can carry on playing the way we have been, then we have obviously got a chance. We have to keep focused because these last three remaining games are so important.”
